November 2012, Latvian Song and Dance Celebration in Riga
 
 

Year 2013 will be significant for Latvia as around 40 000 participants will gather in our capital Riga for the XXV Song and XV Dance Celebration. It is not just a festival – the tradition goes back for 140 years and in 2003 together with Lithuanian and Estonian Song and Dance tradition it was recorded in the UNESCO list of Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The celebration is due to take place from the 30th of June through the 12th of July 2013, in Riga. Attendees are certain to experience Latvia as the Land That Sings. Every spring all Latvian dance groups and choirs take part in displays involving more than 15 000 dancers and around 13 000 singers, demonstrating to the jury from the compulsory repertoire as well as freely chosen ones.

November 2012, Vilnius Old Town recognized as the wonder of the Baltic countries
 
 

Tallinn old-town, the city of Gdansk, the Masurian Lakeland in Poland, the Curonian Lagoon (Lithuania and Russia), Rügen and the white rocks of Rügen were also nominated as wonders of the Baltic countries were. The Six Baltic Sea Wonders contest intends to strengthen a common identity of the Baltic Sea countries, to make them more visible as a tourist destination and to promote the creation of innovative products for tourism.
The contest is part of the project of the Baltic Sea Region Agora 2.0. – Heritage Tourism for Increased Baltic Sea Region Identity – that includes the total number of 22 partners from 10 Baltic countries. The project aims at improving identity of the Baltic Sea Region in the spheres of natural and cultural heritage, and contributes to the implementation of the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region by developing strategies regarding sustainable tourism.

August 2012, Jurmala will own a modern multi-million worth Dzintari concert hall/conference hall
 
 

More than 9.563 million Euros worth tender for the reconstruction of the Dzintari concert hall has completed, and the results of the tender indicate that the reconstruction and renovation work will be carried out by Re & Re Ltd. Jurmala City Council determined the winner choosing the most advantageous offer. Altogether three offers were submitted.
