Suomenlinna Sea Fortress Sightseeing Tour

Suomenlinna is one the largest sea fortresses in the world and is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site. Suomenlinna was founded in 1748 and it is located on six islands approximately one kilometre from Helsinki's city centre and can be reached only by ferry or water bus.

During the ferry crossing you will have a unique chance to see and photograph Helsinki from the sea. After 15-minute ferry crossing to the fortress, you step on Suomenlinna land and start the journey through the history in Suomenlinna Museum, where the award-winning wide-screen film "Suomenlinna Experience" presents the construction of the sea fortress, it's colorful past and the people who made it all happen. The history of Suomenlinna is an essential part of the history of Finland and the fortress has played a crucial role in the power struggles between Sweden, Russia and Finland.
After the wide-screen presentation the guide will take you to see the most important sights of the fortress, such as the Castle Courtyard and the Dry Dock, which in its days was among the largest in the world. You will also visit Ehrensvärd Museum, which is an 18th century interior museum with portraits, scale models of ships and paintings by Elias Martin.
In the end of the tour we invite you to the Piper's Park on a real picnic, where for almost eighty years the visitors and residents of the fortress have been able to enjoy a cup of coffee with pastries in the beautiful Piper's Cafe with its marvellous sea view.
